KVMing It Bigtime Baby!

I’m sitting here at my desk loading Windows on a Gateway 333Mhz Celeron while posting this entry using my main PC, staring at the same monitor, toggling back and forth between machines thanks to a lovely and wonderful creation called a KVM switch. I can share the same mouse, keyboard and monitor w/up to four different computers and toggle merrily through them, virtually skipping in a chartreuse-colored, faerie-like wonderland of pure pixie-dusted electronic computer joy. Bouncing around from computer to computer like the moth larva, Laspeyresia saltitans trying to escape it’s tight and confining prison ala a Mexican Jumping Bean or a whacked-out crack junky at a bail hearing… it’s a beautiful thing.

This KVM is SWEET! It’s not one of those cheap plastic, futzy crappy-assed flaky sizzle before you get it out of the box KVMs, no sirree Bob/ Dick/ Jane. It’s a Belkin OmniView SE 4 port PS/2 KVM Model # F1D074 and I LUV it! They don’t make babies like this anymore.

All this is possible thanks to a good friend, who will not be named here because every time I do he/she gets tons of “hey can I have some stuff” emails. *wave* Hey buddy! THANKS! *end waving*

I felt good at finally being able to send he/she some cash (a pathetic amount) but also a gift in return, a Microsoft Spot Watch I won at this year’s CES. The suckers go for a pretty penny on eBay and well… he/she deserves it even though you need a subscription for it to tell time. *whistles innocently* Seriously. Well, come on don’t say you’re surprised, look who made it. No habla subscription, no habla tell-timey.

Before getting that ton of older computer equipment a few short months ago I didn’t need a KVM switch; I only had one computer. After putting together as many machines as I have parts for I’ll keep one or two and sell off the rest here locally. So I’m busy assembling the suckers and hooking them up to the KVM allows me to switch rapidly between computers while still using my main PC. Shweet! It felt very cool indeed to load windows on one machine, play around with my test box and write this entry up on my main PC, toggling back and forth using the same mouse/ monitor/ keyboard. Ahhhh… I could so get used to this. Geek on, people. I am. THANKS BUDDY!!
