Get a Real Browser

OK, so one of the first things I do at work after figuring out the network proxy settings is install Firefox on my computer. This even after I loathe Firefox for not having that cool drop down search selector in the address bar that Mozilla has. (Mouse over pic.) Anywhoo… every time the great and wonderful person that hired me looks over my shoulder and asks me to go somewhere that’s POPUP heavy of course I have to double-click it to load, thanks to that nifty popup blocker Mozilla and Firefox share. Every time this happens right over my shoulder I hear “Get a real browser” or “you should use a browser that works.”

He means Internet Explorer!

And he’s kidding and I like him for it.

Oh… and all my coworkers are really sick bastards too. Yabba-dabba doo!

Peace y’all…

Vinnie,

Did you tell him that you hate IE? Hmm, maybe they are IE-challenged. Oh well.

It's all about the standards man... you need to in a large company maintain standards and they use filtering and surf-control to stop most of the bad juju that can come from happy clickers using IE. The smart ones use Firefox or Mozilla - the not so smart ones... well, really, you don't want them playing with or installing any software!!

Vinnie,

Good news. Got Broadband! :) Sure it's not 1.5 mbps, but at least it's faster than 56kpbs. What am I talking about? Why 1-way Satellite Internet, with uploads of 28.8-33.2 kbps and downloads of 400kbps. I'm not complaining, and no Cable or DSL won't come down here, so I opted for this. Sorry gang. :D

Hey Shannon, Great news for you. Down here in Bells South terroritory, you can only count on one thing.....dead silence on their equipment. We Moved on 11/5/03 and had land line service installation scheduled for 11/6/03.....they finally installed us on 12/19/03. It then took them till July of 2004 to straighten out which line had which options, then till december of 2004 to properly itemize each line with it's correct pricing for the entire time.

oh yeah and we are located in civilization just 14 miles from the State Capital, and right around the corner from their residential installation crews garage

Firefox does have the little search box, right next to the address bar, though, which can do all sorts of different searches. Which I kinda like better. But somebody's probably made a plugin to do the old dropdown search, geeks fear change and hack things to be the same.
April 11, 2005 @ 09:22PM
Macho (oh man is that funny): I'm surprised your town has people.

Blue: HEYA! How you? Alas, I have yet to find a plugin (ahhhh, a PLUGIN to do what it used to do ala Mozilla... brain hurts) that does the Mozilla dropdown search. See, my biggest peeve is making something simple HARDER. No makey harder or me makey mental anguish... hehe.

Well then what's the geeky answer, Quard? Hack the planet! Write your own plugin :)

And I'm doin alright, thanks.

I'll just hack a developer, it's easier - I gave up serious coding a while back. That's what happens to ALL programmers... well, ok some still think they can code but they're deluded. The life of a good programmer is 1/2 the lifespan of a tsetse fly.

Glad to hear you're doing alright man, how's the Magic scene? Still into it?

Hey Bruce, how you doing? Vinnie is still his nutty self. As for me, I'm still hanging on, using broadband satellite via DogLegs.Com, they are a family-owned ISP. That does make them better than dialup, but I'm beginning to wonder. :D

I was out of Magic for several years, after Urza's Saga and all that, just got back into it, actually. I blame the ninja. Started playing in FNMs and actually went down to the PTQ in Richmond the other day. Sealed's way too random, though. Anyway.

Good luck getting that dropdown thing, Quard, I honestly don't like it that much 'cause I've had it hit me too often when I'm trying to type in a URL, and end up with the Google search page about it. But that's just me. This developer you're gonna hack, is she cute?

Blue: cool to hear you got back into the gamea little. Mem-o-ries. I dabbled a little about a year ago for a bit teaching a good kid the game and giving him some cards. Just got back in touch with Woody (Rosewater) a few weeks ago; gotta write back to him. Floored to have read a while ago that they did take my suggestion in an Old Quard's Corner to call the next Unglued, Unhinged. Fun-ny! :)

Bruce: Always good to see you again, sorry no laptop but if your desktop ever needs some parts, let me know bud!

Shannon: I avoided doing a new entry just for you :)

Not good Vinnie. Where will we go to get your wit and sarcasm. The comments aren't enough, but I guess they will have to do. Bruce, try to get better, and if the sickness is soemthing beyond your control, you just have to trust the doctors. I know, I know, the doctors seem like they should dress in clown suits and diagnose you, but they know what they are doing. My dad is a doctor, actually a GP (General Practictioner). Vinnie, what are you doing with that knife? No, no, don't do it Vinnie. Run Bruce run.

You know Maro, Quard? Wow, you move in elevated circles far above us Magical peons. Highest people I ever knew were Pym and JDonais. And Donai5, I guess, and BethMo, back on the mailing list, kinda. Most of them don't work for Wizards any more, I think Jeff went off to work for Ultra Pro? So what're you getting in contact with Maro about, or is it hush hush NDA?

Hmm, maybe I should just send you an email and quit spamming your comments section :)

Shannon: you'll be happy to know my wit and sarcasm can both be found on the store shelves right next to the Bacitracin and Preperation H. For all your humor, wit and sarcasm needs Quardludes and Vinalin (definitely for internal use!) Remember kids: If a store doesn't carry me, the shop owner is a pervert commie pinko atheist that likes to rub against people at a bus stop, plays sick naughty disgusting games with your pets and wakes up in bed with Mommy, replacing your Daddy who's body is in the freezer...

Blue: Although we've emailed a bit in the early Magic days I only actually bumped into him *THE* Jeff Donas and BethMo once. Jeff used to come into #mtg chat where I used to get half my quotes from for QC and BethMo donated two Mana Crypts to help me come to PTLA when silly readers wanted to meat Ole Fly Head. Actually I think they really wanted to meet Ferratio but were humoring me. A few months after ending the Corner on April Fool's Day years ago Jeff made me an offer involving a resurrected Corner and a few tourney appearances but I really wanted to wave off at the top of my game and MtG wasn't really the same to me as it had been in the beginning. Maro put Ferratio in the 5th Anniversary of the Duelist in his Magic:The Puzzling piece shortly before the mag ended and I was quite happy to let nostalgia and history take it's course. It was a good time, a fun time and I'm still happy to this day to have had the impact I did with the readers and the people who made the game what it was - the creators and the players all. Pym... ah he saved my life at PTLA with a $20 cash infusion for food. *sigh* He's still my hero. My hoagie. My submarine sandwich. Uh... in a platonic way. Most of them don't work there anymore? I hope they're all happy to the end of their days! Good peeps, them! No NDA needed about me talking to Maro, I just sent him one of those 'Hey what the kelp have you been up to' emails, he replied (good to hear about the ever-growing family!) now it's my turn.

Feel free to email anyday... do the quardbye@hotmail thingy and I'll send you my real email.

Bruce: Save some dough up for as long as it takes. You can get a decent laptop from Wal-Mart these days and other places for like $500. Or else for maybe $300-350 you can pick up a used P3 laptop but they break so much more than laptops you can burn your money instead to get the same effect.

What about a 300 dollar Dell Desktop Vinnie? Are they any good? Now as to the rest of the story.
Where is it, and when we gonna hear it?
