Well the tech support said due to what's happening it's best I return the modem which I did today. So far so good...

Welcome to Nirvana. I could not live without my cable modem. Dial-up seems so primative, savage and brutal to me now.

I'll be totally honest - there is nothing wrong with dialup use for internet access. Many people can't afford high-speed access and the price for both dialup ($21 most places) and broadband (avg around $40-50) is too high, IMO. Dialup should be what places like Netzero and a few others are charging now ($9.99) and broadband should be around $25.

Both dialup and high-speed users are getting reamed but dialup users, of which I have always been until a few DAYS ago are being raped. And it's totally unfair.

I love high-speed access now that I can afford it but the price for ALL internet access is a rip with dialuppers (still have my proud badge) bearing a stupid proportional burden.

I'd also like to take this time to thank high speed internet use for clogging up the web with poorly designed sites; web development as a whole has been dealt a savage blow "because the site loads fast on broadband" mentality. High speed use has literally made tons of sloppy coders out there that should be stopped from coding anything more than a crossword puzzle...

Cross your fingers, I'm supposed to get a cable modem this Friday from Mediacom aka Mediacom Online. My dad says he will believe it when he sees it, oh well.

Perhaps then I will join the ranks of the truly broadband and be able to use my wireless router (yes it's a 102.11 G wireless router running at 54 Mbps, I may have the numbers down wrong. It's from Belkin.). Only May 27, 2005 between 1 to 5 pm Central Standard Time will tell. Wish me luck everyone.

Shannon: good luck man, hope it works. I'm waiting a little to ensure all is well in cable modem stability land before hooking up the 108Mbps wireless router and the wireless cards I picked up at the local mega-geek store. $27 for the wireless router, 17 for the cards. Suh-weet! Enjoy the fun!

Got some bad news today. Seems that Mediacom denied my cable modem request on "you are 1000 feet from the main cable line on the highway". Shoot, if they would've asked me that yesterday, I would've told them that. Enjoy your cable modem Vinnie, and I hope (hope, mind you) that I will get DSL by this Fall 2005. If not, then expect me on this doglegs.com satellite modem for at least 5 years until something else comes along to replace it.

Shannon: it'll be good in the end man, the wait will finally one day be over and you'll be VERY happy with whatever you wind up getting. The Cox technicians are coming out to get rid of the spotty drops I've been experiencing. It's not as bad as it was they just need to tweak it to get it 100%. My bill's been reduced to $17 and I can use it 80% of the time so it's good
