Looking Forward to Seeing the Ocean Soon!

Smart people live in Las Vegas knowing that sometime before too long, they will be sitting on prime ocean-front property. Stupid people live in California not understanding after 27 bazillion earthquakes that they’re about to be drowned like rats. Even their not-so-distant recessive cousins, the people who live in trailers in Tornado Alley know that God hates California and a purge, eh plunge is coming…

*sigh* Man I can’t wait to see the Ocean!

Q: What was the last thing a Californian said after the Big One?
A: Glub glub glub!

Q: How many Californians does it take to change a lightbulb?
A: None, they all drowned. Almost like rats (but their rats were smarter and moved to Las Vegas before it was too late driving all the %$#@!ing prices up for everybody.)

Q: How dumb do you have to be when Tornado Alley residents think you’re stupid?
A: Stupid enough that a paper plate beats you at chess religiously.

My Upcoming Dream System: Part II aka Stocking Up

As some know I was pretty close to buying parts for my dream killer gaming rig this January but I wisely held off knowing that if I could manage to resist the impulse I’d be able to build a better and better system the longer I held out. See, this is the one basic rule of computer building: prices come down. The longer you put off buying parts the cheaper and more powerful your new rig becomes.

Well, I’m just about ready now and thanks to my waiting not only did the prices come down a little but more powerful options presented itself (that and I’m financially capable to buying more system.) Instead of buying parts and gutting my existing computer, I think I’ll build a full rig instead. Minus maybe a hard drive, as I already have a 200gig that I have yet to fill, plus a friend already offered 512MB of PC2700 that I can stick in this board for a backup system. See, I’m moving my 1 gig of OCZ 3200 RAM to the new rig, although I hear their new RAM is sweet - maybe I’ll go buy some or check out other RAM offerings like Kingston or Corsair… dunno.

So what will my new rig look like? Well, at least an AMD Athlon 64 3700+, Nforce 4 Ultra chipset mobo and a PCI express 6800GT card. Right now I’m pretty focused on the type of processor, mobo and card, just nailing down which specific ones I’m getting; the rest will follow in short order. So within a week or two I should be placing my orders and waiting for the shipments to come in.

In the mean time I’m stocking up on new games for my killer rig; I’ve already got NFS Underground 2, Farcry, Doom3 Half-Life 2 Collector’s Edition and UT 2004 for starters and I’m still scanning the web for other great game deals… booya!

If you’ll excuse me now I have to go do some more price shopping. Daddy needs a new rig.

Vinnie,

My dad got himself a Direcway satellite internet system. Guess who had to help put it up? Yep, yours truly. So after getting it assembled and hooked up, I tried to register him under Mydirecway.com, but discovered that his browser was IE, so had to use Firefox temporarlily to set him up, including email box.

I will probably get a network cable run from his house to mine, so I can steal, ahem, borrow, some of his bandwidth. It's 700k Download and 200k Upload on satellite internet. Luckily I got a router to do this for myself, or I would be worried.

BTW, good luck on getting the stuff for your gaming PC. It may be a few more years before I get a gaming rig, still have an XBox for gaming anyway. May have to sell a few things to get some money anyway. :D

Normally I'd suggest a cheapie wireless card but ethernet is more secure and 100' or so is pretty cheap these days so neh. Nice to hear you'll be speeding up soon. Me, I have to stop looking at parts for the new rig, tomorrow is my early day so I have to get some Zzzzz soon. Nighty night peeps!

Hey Bruce,

Nice to hear from you again. Yep, as soon as I get some CAT5 wire and some water pipe to enclose said wire, I will have 500 download and 70 upload satellite internet (That's how much it is when everyone else is on when they get home or at work). Now if I could just find that manual on women that I had around here somewhere. Lost the darn thing. :)

It's always nice to hear from Bruce! YAY Bruce!!

Shannon: cool deal on the satellite! My week's been a good one and I just got off the phone with Gizmo catching up and talking tech. Looking forward to the three day weekend, excuse me now I have to go and watch Hellboy. The IT Dept has just started our very own free rental club (where we all go we got these shows you wanna borrow them and trade) Cool deal. If I like Hellboy I'll nab it at Target tomorrow for $10...

... ok well all I can say is I will not be buying Hellboy at Target. While I did enjoy it, I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I go by thisw mantra: if I just watched a movie and could watch it again in about a week if I had it, then I'd buy it. No can do Hellboy. Sadness...

Vinnie,

Good news! In two weeks I will get a Compaq laptop pc with the works (Except for a wireless card, I think) for $494.00. That is after Office Depot rebates. It already came with a $100.00 Instant rebate (it was $899.99, but the $100.00 off made it $799.99 plus shipping and local sales tax). I also get an HP printer with it, so I'm not worried about it. I am joining the 21st century community aren't I (forget the hardwiring of my brain to the internet)? Between this and a satellite Modem of my Dad's that acts like Cable modem (it drops in speed when more people are on), I will be set.

Wish me luck with the Compaq. :D

I wish you a bountiful plentiful cornucopia of best wishes with the laptop!!
