DL.TV: Amaze Yourself?

DLTVDo you long for a decent show about computers and technology? Do you miss not having such a thing anymore on your TV, if you ever had it? Do you want to watch a show hosted by two tech-loving geeks that don’t look like tech-loving geeks? (One is married and the other is DATING!)

Well then peeps, DL.TV (formerly known as Digital Life TV) is just what the doctor ordered! This twice a week TV show streams live every Tues and Thurs (4pm Pacific time).

The shows, running anywhere from 30min to about an hour is hosted by Robert Heron and Patrick Norton. Both are well-respected and recognized tech enthusiasts / writers / lab rats with great pedigrees (I’ve seen their kennel records). Backed by the global tech conglomerate, Ziff Davis, this grass-roots show is humble, honest and human. The three H’s folks. Wow.

What can you expect out of an episode of DL.TV? Everything and anything you ever wanted to know about HDTV, $800 remotes that suck, portable media players (not just iPods folks), game reviews, browser plugins, free software and protecting your rights online. Learn what really bugs the show hosts as a topic that strikes near and dear to their hearts causes an entertainingly heartfelt rant/digression. (Robert Heron: digital TV is not all digital!) Rob and Pat are a good duo and they share the screen well.

Plus they’ve got backup thanks to being a part of Ziff Davis Media. Guests frequently include game/hardware reviewers from sister sites like 1up.com and ExtremeTech reviewing XBox 360s, digital cameras, upscaling DVD players and assorted other shiny gadgets. Jim Louderback, VP of Ziff Davis Media and formerly a television tech host himself, stops by from time to time to review products, encourage the staff and personally refuse Robert and Pat’s $50,000 requests for “office supplies.”

If you haven’t checked out DL.TV yet, you can do so live as it streams (4pm Pacific Tues & Thurs) or download the shows (available in many different audio and video formats) and watch them at your convenience. You can subscribe to their broadcasts via their website or iTunes among other ways.

And it’s not just about computers. It’s about living the Digital Life, baby… best of luck, guys!

Vinnie,

I downloaded one of their Ipod video webcasts, and they only play 2/3 way through. I would go with you, if you want to see the video, watch the streaming version, it won't leave you 1/3 less satisfied. Besides I listen to the audio podcasts, luckily they are very descriptive or else I would miss a lot of dl.tv.

Shannon: try a few more iPod videos and definitely let them know of any ones you're having problems with.

How do I watch DL.TV? Spitting the video to my TV and laying on the bed with a wireless keyboard and mouse for easy viewing! I can't say enough about how much I enjoy everyone's efforts at DL.TV!

Vinnie,

I think we crashed their servers. The downloads are almost gone when you try to download. :D

Nono, it was Patrick loading Windows Vista on the file server, I tell you...

Vinnie,

Finally got a three-pack of hard cases from Speck for my White 30 GB iPod Video. Now I don't have to worry about scratches or the click wheel turning down the volume by itself when listening to a good song. The case I have on it is clear Black (which looks gray), but it is still cool. :D

Sue,

Thought you kept up on the geekdom that is the internet. There is Twit, DL.TV, and I'm sure Vinnie can point out a few more in his next blog entry. Sorry, typing on the desktop, the laptop is getting a recharge from the Brick power supply.

Shannon: cool to hear about the cases. For me the hardest thing to find was a good one for my Nano. After experimenting with a $10 case and some plastic sheet film, I settled on a hard black aluminum case with a belt clip and a screen protector. The click wheel is let free but recessed so no accidental triggering the volume. I searched, searched AND searched but there is no good clear cases for the Nano that has a belt clip that won't snap off the second you hit it. This case is $10 and uses a standard universal belt clip that you can detach. Screw those $20 for 5cent of plastic dealies - those really suck!

Vinnie,

My Clear cases are ones that fit in your shirt pocket, or in the case of a woman, a purse. For an iPod case, that's all I wanted.

Shannon: gotcha. For the nano there appears to be the possibility if you use a plastic/silicone skin that if there is dust on it you can scratch it, so I went with a hard case. That and I can't justify the cost for 5cents of material that won't protect it well if knocked on a door frame.

BTW peeps if you are looking for an inexpensive case for your iPod Nano, I found a cool, cheap find - I just bought a pack of Gameboy Micro SOX for $1 at Wal-Mart on clearance. Should protect the Nano well in your pocket, it definitely fits! 3colored sox for the Nano for $1?! Blue, grey and red. You can find them on Amazon and other sites for like $9.99. MUCH cheaper than advertised-for Nano ones! SCORE!
