Where Did That Month Go?

Two weeks after my Nano and I returned from New York, my Favorite Aunt and Uncle in the Whole Wide World™ came here to Vegas for a visit. Even though it was a mere fortnight since seeing them in NYC, the wait was excruciating; I really don’t know how I made it without basking in their presence for that long. See, these two are beyond gold to me, seriously. In some families there are relatives that are special, admired for their kindness, loving personalities and their warm spirit. I’d post a picture I snapped of them while they were relaxing on our couch but my aunt described in great detail exactly how she’d slowly pull out my intestines and make Dying Dipshit soup. :'(

We all had a great time storming all over Vegas with my Favorite Aunt and Uncle in the Whole Wide World and I got a LOT of great, free meals. Which isn’t why I love when I’m with them, but I do love have room in my heart to love them a slight bit more with all that free grub.

When I was staying in their crib in NYC, I noticed my Favorite Uncle in the Whole Wide World had purchased a new, very cool, Hi-Def television set (one without vacuum tubes)! Upon watching it for a while I realized that even though his cable service gave him HD programming, the picture wasn’t being displayed in HD - just regular old blurry non-HD fuzziness that most of the world (myself included) enjoys. Which is a travesty that his Favorite Nephew in the Whole Wide World (I hope) must inspect and correct! The cause of the problem was quickly spotted, there was no HDMI cable. After asking him why he doesn’t have said cable, he told me that the store wanted to charge him $50 for it so he didn’t get it.

I HATE stores that do that whole stupid gouge the customer with those insanely over-priced HDMI Monster-type cables! It’s inexcusable and a blatant freaking rip-off! And no one, I mean no one rips off my Favorite Uncle in the Whole Wide World! (Or my friends which is why I have 2 less these days)

So while they were up here visiting I ordered him an HDMI cable online and gave it to him. Man, was he was a tad shocked when I told him it was $1.98 for the 6′ HDMI cable (plus a whole $4.98 shipping = $5.98). And that wasn’t the end of the deals I got for him this trip here: a 1gig Toshiba SD card for his camera ($2.50) at Office Max as well as giving him enough spare RAM stick’s (free) to double his computer’s memory! (I have plenty lying around)

A few days ago, after my Favorite Aunt and Uncle in the Whole Wide World left, I got a call from my uncle and he told me how wonderful the picture looks now on his HDTV, (now that it’s displaying HDTV) and that he’s a very, very happy boy.

*sniff* We’re all so proud of me *sniff*

Vinnie, where did you find an hdmi cable for 2 bucks? I shopped at Wal-Mart and a good one was 30 dollars. I'm thinking Ebay? Now if only you had dancing girls in here

Hey Shannon! Expensive audio and HD cables are a known huge rip-off. Cables by and large are made of cheap materials, no matter the price. Audio geeks for years have known that there are $10 ultra-gee-wiz cables out there for their stereos that match or outperform $120 cables and the same is true for HDMI cables in the TV industry. If you think about it all cables are made from the same cheap materials, so how could a 6' cable OF ANY TYPE be $30-50 instead of $1-5? High price cables are by and large a huge ripoff and an easy way to pump and unknowing consumer for some extra cash.

If anyone bothers to do a quick Google, Amazon or Pricewatch search on HDMI cables they can find a plethora of reasonably priced selections. Places like Monoprice and ClearAV are real good places to start. In fact, my uncle's $1.98 high-quality HDMI cable (manufactured by Eforcity) is now going for $1.14... :))

I simply allow the Universe to bend and meet my wants and needs. Also, I do a Google price search, use sites like Amazon, hot-deals.org, priwatch.com, pricegrabber.com, slickdeals.net and a few others... lalalala... the Universe, she bends... :D

The Universe and I have an understanding and we both lean a little to give the other what they need at times. It's a good deal and a fabulous relationship; one which would be sadder without the other. B)

Take it from one who knows. The vinster's ability to fing the super deal is strictly hereditary and necessitated totally by cheapness.. The ole vinster inheredited it from his father !!!!!!! which makes it necessitated by the fact his cheap >:XX daddy won't help him finance his country club lifestyle:banana:. There fore the amazing vinster, has to make his pennies s=>t=>r=>e=>t=>c=>h for miles.

1. Thou hast benefited from my ability to find deals, oh cheapest of the cheap. Remember that Core 2 Duo E6750 Dell for $840 I pointed you to? Hmmm?
2. Thou art so cheap thou hast surpassed thine sire (look it up I'll wait)
3. You're still an idjit.
4. I misread your last point and thought you said penis instead of pennies...

Lol Vinnie,

Must be a sibling you are ribbing. Noone else could say that and get away with it. Your deals are amazing. As I asked you before, is a component cable good for HDTV, I couldn't afford an HDMI cable.
August 28, 2007 @ 06:36AM
Shannon: to get the HD signal, (as said in this blog entry) you need an HDMI cable. And for $1.14 + shipping, well, go get it: ;)

Look under amazon.com for HDMI 6FT / 2M Super High Resolution Male to Male Cable by Eforcity and you'll find the sucker. (sort by price)

K Vinnie, I bought a $1.12 HDMI 6FT/2Meters Super High Resolution male to male cable from Eforcity tonight with shipping. Should be here next week. This cable is for my Dish Network HD DVR. Will probably use the component cables for my DVD-R for playback (it doesn't have HDMI for playback. That would require more money for a new DVD-R with HDMI and it does not record in HD).
August 28, 2007 @ 05:30PM
You're welcome, Shannon! Enjoy HD and the DVR, woo! woo!

(I'm always glad to bring HD to the masses for 1.12 + shipping) :>>

Vinnie,

My cheap ($6.20) HDMI cable should be here next Friday or Saturday. Let's see how well it works, Eforcity is supposed to make and sell it. Now as for the Component cable that I am using for HD right now, it goes to the current dvd player/recorder that I have hooked up to the Viore HDTV that I got earlier this year. My multi-ported TV will be very happy now. :>>

Cool beans, Shannon. Enjoy the inexpensive cable-y goodness!
