Slumdog Millionaire

Best movie ever Slumdog Millionaire

I heard a lot about this movie before it came out and have to admit it really peaked my interest. I’ve seen movies like City of Joy and while the situation in the slums of India are not totally unknown to me I was wavering on seeing it, despite the critical acclaim (something anyone smart usually pays no attention to). See, if it was good, I knew it would be a truly great and wonderful film but if it was bad, I would be terribly, terribly disappointed.

Today, I finally decided to go see Slumdog Millionaire and all I can really say is this: It’s truly one of the best movies I have ever had the pleasure seeing! Best movie ever? Maybe. I was captured from the second the movie started; completley fascinated you might say and never did I feel it was slow or I got bored (a rarity with what passes for films these days).

This movie was touching without going overboard, smart without being unrealistic and showed the concept of hope in a whole new light, at least for me. A love story, a tale of desperation and an unrepentant look at the impoverished of India (something the government there doesn’t want to talk or do anything about) all in one. And more. Much much more.

I’m very glad I went and was able to add a new original movie to my list of Great Films. Very, very glad. I can’t stress enough that you should see this wonderfully fascinating and original masterpiece of story-telling in the theaters while you can. And if for some reason you do not think this film is good, it’s because you’re dead inside. Like republicans, democrats or Switzerland. Yeah, Switzerland…

UPDATE: I just finished watching the Academy Awards and I’m very pleased to announce that Slumdog Millionaire won Best Picture as well as oscars for Best Director, Adapted Screenplay, Original Score, Original Song, Cinematography, Film Editing and Sound Mixing! 8 Oscars a well-deserved sweep, indeed! Congrats to everyone that made such a good film possible; a film that was going direct to DVD but some smart people worked hard and saved it! Jai Ho!

Chupi? That is a sci-fi channel movie. Why should I watch that one?

It's so bad it's good. Here's a summary:

Chupacabra: Dark Seas is a 2005 Sci Fi Pictures original film starring John Rhys-Davies. Chupacabra is captured and smuggled aboard a cruise ship where it soon escapes from captivity, leaving the passengers at its mercy. Filmed on location in Turks and Caicos Islands, this movie was released on DVD as Chupacabra Terror.

Come on, how can anyone not want to see this?

Vinnie you have a warped sense of humor. Now what is your opinion of the new Get Smart movie? Or the animated justice league movie set in the early 1960s?

While the animated Justice League: The New Frontier was not faithful to the comic book series origins and instead followed the Darwyn Cooke graphic novel of the same name, I didn't think it was anywhere close in quality or story-telling to the fabulous Iron Man and Dr. Strange animated features.

Most "origins" type animated tales seem rushed and rarely is there then the sequels that rock the house, so for me most of them are throw-aways unlike Iron Man and Dr. Strange as previously mentioned.

The Avengers ones were better. But not by a lot. I do hope the upcoming Wonder Woman one rocks and look forward to sitting back and finishing up the Watchmen graphic novels in time to be educated enough to be disappointed with the movie coming out this week.

Oh and the New Avengers one was good, love futuristic/alternative timeline type comic movies anyday!

Vinnie I have the watchmen graphic novel in hardback. And yes I do expect the live action movie to disappoint me, or a cartoon movie of this book. It was an original idea, that's the difference.

chris: blue's right, as long as the 2 movies aren't talked about in the same sentence then all is right with the Universe.

Shannon: From what I heard the first movie is supposed to be books 1-4. Seems odd to me and I'm definitely not what you'd call a great fan but at least since I have read the first four I'll happily be educated enough to be disappointed.

They better get the blood splatter on that badge right though, lemme tell ya! XX(
