Ever see an image on the Net and think to yourself, hey I’d love to make that my desktop wallpaper but it lacks that something more to make it even cooler? Well, why not add that something cool yourself? All you need is a decent graphics program and enough knowledge to make yourself dangerous.

Let’s say you come across an image of a TIE Fighter from Star Wars (1). Sure, it looks ultra-cool alright but it needs something to make it even cooler. Yeah, that’s right you need to let people know what operating system you’re running so you find a Windows Bliss-like image (2) and think hey, how do I combine them to make the ultra-coolest desktop wallpaper ever?
Simple. Just use layers. If you have any decent graphics program that supports layers like Adobe Photoshop (or Elements), Paint Shop Pro or a cool piece of freeware like Paint .NET merging the 2 images is easy.
Simply put the TIE fighter (1) on one layer, the Bliss image (2) on another and play with two Layer settings - the merge layer setting and the opacity setting until you get (3) - The Ultra-Coolest Wallpaper Ever, which I call TIEBliss! (1)+(2)=(3)! Ta-daaaaa!!
PS. The reason I did not mention GIMP is that it sucks. Like Irfanview.
