Best Online TV Guide

Best Online TV Guide

Like any geek I do a lot of things online and find certain tasks easier to do on the computer and the Net than off. Take finding what’s on TV for example. Ever since the advent of cable printed TV guides are worthless. Whether you grab the free guide that comes with your newspaper or are still crazy enough to pay for a published TV Guide (like TV Guide, duh) finding what you’re looking for isn’t easy; let alone finding out which episode is on and what it’s about.

Even if your cable/satellite TV provider gives you an onscreen guide it’s a pain. You slowly navigate huge channel lists (some that you don’t get) and mash a ton of buttons on a crappy remote to try to see what’s playing then mash even more buttons to get a summary of the show you selected.

There’s got to be a better way, you say? Why yes, there is… enter the online TV guide. These online TV guides are free, have a wealth of information about all the channels you get and are laid out in that familiar grid listing you’re used to.

While there are many, many such online TV guides for you to try, I’m going to tell you a little about the Best Online TV Guide out there - ZAP2It.

Online TV Guide

Zap2It displays a 3 hour programming grid by default of the channels you get in your area. If the listing is incorrect, click the Change my area link on the site and you will be prompted for your zip code and a list of cable/sat providers for your area will show up for you to select.

The grid listing looks clean, the site is speedy and if you want to get an episode summary of any show or movie, just click on it. Middle clicking will get you a summary page that lists the show/movie, what it’s about and the times the show or future series episodes will air. You can also find a specific show or movie quickly by using their search feature.

ZAP2It loads fast, has all the information you’ll ever need to find something to watch and best yet, if you register (free) you can set ZAP2It to display an unheard of 6 hour channel grid, instead of 3. That’s more than any online TV guide you’ll find out there!

Simple, clean, informative and blazingly fast is why I use ZAP2It every day. What are you waiting for? Or do you use a different online guide or other method to find what you want to watch? Please share.

Better than tv guide online. I tried that guide and hated it. But the best tv guide is the one that comes with your satellite or cable tv.

I used to use Yahoo!'s TV listings but in 2006 they crashed and burned in a horrid redesign and everyone ran for the hills. And stayed gone. Looking around I found ZAP2It after reading a comprehensive online article comparing 10 Online TV guides. Tried them all and loved ZAP2It the best. Still do. If you want you can read the article here.

He's like The Shadow. Vinnie knows. But unlike The Shadow, he doesn't have a Sanctum, unless you count his apartment (messy though it may be).

Happy late birthday Vinnie. Sorry, I didn't know. Somebody forgot to tell me, you know who you are sister of Vinnie.

Thanks Shannon, I had a fun birthday! I do miss the movies and dinner with my Vegas friends tradition but I had a great birthday. My friends called and we had a great time (well someone had problems installing Windows 7 but later it worked out great).

So far I've seen Avatar in 3D twice will go see it again before it leaves the theaters since that's the last time it will be seen in that beautifully full immersive 3D. Unless they later re-release it, which would be a very very smart idea. Do you hear me, Cameron?! >:(

You better have heard me. :>
