Over the years I’ve gone through a few computers and had to recopy a lot of pictures, documents, music and other files onto my new machine’s hard drive. While it’s a relatively straightforward process, there are some pitfalls.
Copying files under Windows has a few painful shortcomings. First, if you copy a ton of files in a lot of directories the process can take a long time just to get started and if there are any files that don’t copy the process stops on the first file with a problem. Second, if you’re like me, you want to preserve the date/time stamp information of your files so you know when they were created just by looking at them in a directory. Copying files under Windows deletes all the time/date information, replacing it with the current time and date.
Which is totally unacceptable to me.
There are a ton of utilities out there that will copy files and preserve their date information, but most of them have a ton of confusing, stupid options and very few that I’ve seen are designed properly so as to avoid problems.
What I needed was an easy-to-use file copy utility that didn’t bomb because it encountered a problem and I didn’t have 2,000 stupid options or switches to go through to get it to do what I want it to do. Oh yeah, and it had to save the date/time stamps of the files it was copying. Surely there was such a program out there?

Enter Y-Copy a free and very easy to use no-nonsense mass file copier that (1) keeps the date and time stamps of all copied files and (2) if it comes across a file it can’t copy it doesn’t stop, it keeps going and when finished provides a list of files it couldn’t copy to the user. Not only that but you can print, edit, or open the list of problem files by clicking a conveniently labeled button!
Oh and did I mention that using YCopy is significantly faster copying large groups of files than Windows itself? So what are you waiting for, try it today.
