Like a good geek, I watch a lot of movies and like to stay current on knowing exactly when new DVDs are coming out and what they’re all about. So how does one stay current on all the latest DVD movie releases?
Well, if you’re a Netflix or Blockbuster Online customer both sites have a list of the new releases and summaries of what they’re about. But their listings can be haphazard and confusing, seldom show release dates for DVDs months in advance and you have to be a paid member to use their site.
There are 2 great and totally free websites I use all the time to see what new DVDs are coming out and both sites give great summaries about each release so you have a decent chance of figuring out if you want to buy (or rent) upcoming movies on DVD.
The first site, is called Video Eta and gives a very long list of DVDs and when they’re released. You can also search a title and ask them to email you when a DVD is coming out that you’re interested in. This site is very extensive and also has movie news. You can even search when a new film is scheduled to be released in the theaters.
The second site, DVD Clinic is more focused and straightforward. Like Video Eta you can find when a new DVD will be released, as well as a summary of the movie but in a more graphical and ordered form (see picture at top of this post). Each web page shows a full month of DVD releases with thumbnail images of the DVD covers, starting with the current month. Drop down boxes allow you to select a different month/year to be displayed going as far back as 1999 and as far ahead as four months into the future. Clicking on a DVD cover takes you to Amazon.com where you can buy the DVD, see the movie summary as well as film reviews from the people that have seen it. I prefer DVD Clinic for the ease of use with their graphical layout and organization as well as and the depth of information provided about the DVDs (in no small part due to their apparent Amazon.com partnership).
These two sites help me make my decisions on what DVDs I may purchase or rent and I think you’ll find them very helpful in your decision making as well.
Do you have a different favorite DVD site? If so please let us know.
