Is James Cameron's Avatar a Ripoff of Pocahontas?
There is a lot of speculation out there on the Net about James Cameron’s Avatar being a total ripoff of Disney’s 1995 animated classic, Pocahontas. While I find it amusing to say the least, the two movies are only similar on the surface (a friend of mine says Avatar is really more like a Ferngully: The Last Rainforest ripoff.)
While my take is that Avatar is not a rip-off and people have far too much time on their hands, a gentleman calling himself Matt Batemen on Regeddit posted this hysterical and illuminating script summary of Pocahontas with editorial notes to show Avatar’s similarity to the Disney film.

I saw Pocahontas as a kid but I don't remember it in 3D with marines, a cool alien planet with the best thought out cool biological life forms and planetary ecosystem of any movie. And where did John Smith swap bodies in the original or was that the director's cut of Pocahontas?

At no point in the two times I saw Avatar (in 3D) did I have a Pocahontas flashback. Not even a Jaws 3D flashback. However, the second time around I had a flashback about how good the first time seeing Avatar was.
