In the previous post, I showed you guys how to install nView on Vista and Windows 7 even though Nvidia doesn’t want to support it for consumer cards anymore because they’re doody-heads and blocked it form installing. Well now I’m going to show you how to assign hotkeys with nView to allow you to rotate your screen easily. You know like Intel, ATI and everybody else allows you to do. All except Nvidia when they told their installer not to install nView anymore if you were on Vista or 7. The putzes.
1. Open nView, either via Control Panel or right clicking an empty spot on your desktop and selecting nView Properties.
2. Select the Hot Keys tab.
3. Under Select an action click on Display Mode and then Rotate display.
4. Click the Add button.
5. Select the appropriate rotation amount. Since I want to go from the normal mode (Landscape) to Portait mode which is 90 degrees, I select 90 degrees.
6. Click on the white bar that reads None underneath Hot keystroke. This allows you to set what key combo triggers the rotation. For me I select CTL + ALT + Up arrow, so I hold these 3 keys down. Hold the keys down you want. You should now see the key combo you selected.
7. Click OK.
Now before you go test this out, you’ll want to set a key combo to get your screen back to normal so repeat Steps 1-7 but when setting the rotation amount, select 0. This will bring your screen back to normal when you want. Of course make sure you select a different key combo; I selected CTL + ALT + Down arrow for no rotation.
That’s it you’re done. You now have the same capabilities anyone else has to rotate your screen using hotkeys like you used to have before nVidia decided to be stupid and lazy.
That’s 2 you owe me, Nvidia! Now bring back horizontal and vertical span modes on multiple monitors for Windows Vista and 7 like ATI just did with their Eyefinity drivers on their new line of cards, ya doody-heads! There’s no excuse now since the competition figured it out! I still like you guys but time to get your head back in the game and stop taking us for granted by giving us excuses for why you can’t do something or support what you used to! Stop being lazy ya doody-heads!
That’s all. Vin: 2 Nvidia: 0, Zip, Ziltch. Nada.
Article Update 03/08/2010: if you only want to rotate your screen and lose all the other functionality of Nview, try the free utility iRotate (from the makers of Powerstrip).
