OK, so I lied. I do that from time to time. People sure got a helluva shock yesterday when they tried to come to the site and they got an alarming message box (see pic) that read:
IF YOU DON’T WANT THE VIRUS TO INSTALL CLICK NO! NOW and there was one click-able button: YES!. ![]()
Man, did you people sure freak! I got a ton of emails telling me that my site was infected and tried to install a virus on their system! Some offered me help to get rid of the virus and others let me know they ran their computers through all sorts of virus scanners to make sure they didn’t catch what I’m calling THE VINNYGOTCHA Virus.
I can’t tell you how much no one seemed to care that it was April 1st; all they knew is that an extremely polite virus was trying to infect their system despite their a/v defenses and panic set in. Not one person emailing me in a pure blind state of terror thought it was a prank.
Hook. Line. Sinker.
If anyone was stupid enough to click the only box you could, aka the YES! please install the virus button, it took you straight to the blog like normal. I don’t know if anyone clicked it like a moron, but since there were no comments, well I think I should be proud people played it safe, falling into my prank.
Seems the best gags are simple ones that cause blind instinctual terror. After all, who wants to purposely launch a virus on their system? Even if they looked at a calendar! ![]()
For the coup de grâce at about 8pm last night I set the YES! button to just keep looping back to asking for permission to install the faux virus. ![]()
HOOK. LINE. AND SINKER FOR THE WIN PEOPLE!
Suckers!
